The 2020 Splatterpunk Awards honor superior achievement for works published in 2019 in the sub-genres of Splatterpunk and Extreme Horror. The nominees are recommended by readers, fans and peers. If you’re not familiar with this sub-genre, Brian Keene has said, “If it’s transgressive, addressing social or political ills, not pulling punches, and pushing the boundaries, then it’s Splatterpunk.”
Congratulations to all the nominees. We’d like to take a moment to celebrate the members of the Atlanta HWA Chapter whose contributions have been recognized as part of the 2020 Splatterpunk Award.
Lynne Hansen provided the cover art for one of the selections for Best Novel with Reception by Kenzie Jennings. Not only did she provide the cover art for the initial paperback edition published by Death’s Head Press, but also the limited edition hardcover that Thunderstorm Books has published in response to popular demand.

One of the selections for Best Short Story is “Breaking the Waters” by Donyae Coles, which was originally published as a joint effort between PseudoPod and Nightlight. One of the co-editors of PseudoPod is a chapter member, and has said that this is the story he’s proudest of sharing in 2019.
In prior years, Stoker Emcee emeritus Jeff Strand has been nominated for the Splatterpunk Award twice and won it once for his short story “The Tipping Point” from Everything Has Teeth published by Thunderstorm Books.
